Have you ever had a friend request,
that you keep them in your prayers?
But throughout the day, it slipped your mind
because of other cares?
Then they come back to let you know
that God had made a way
And they say thanks for all the prayers...
you know you didn't say.
So you smile and nod, as if you prayed
and you're glad to hear their news
And vow next time, you'll say that prayer
before you start to snooze
If we're honest, we've all forgotten
and have been a little slack
But each new day will bring the chance
to get us back on track
I asked my grandson to pray for me
and he did so right away
Short and sweet and to the point,
then he went outside to play
"Jesus, touch her eye...amen"
so simple and so mild
Words of faith and words of trust
spoken by a child
A few weeks later, out of the blue,
he asked about my eye
I said "It's better", which only prompted another question
"Why?"
"It's better because I got some medicine,
that a pharmacy had made."
And Dallas said "Mammie you're wrong,
it's better...because I prayed!"
Stopped in my tracks by a five-year-old,
who remembered the prayer he said
And there I was...totally clueless,
giving credit to ointment instead
Oh, to have that child-like faith,
that isn't riddled with fear and doubt
He simply prayed...he believed Jesus heard...
and Jesus would work things out
So when someone asks you to say a prayer,
make an effort to follow through
It doesn't have to be real fancy,
just honest, heartfelt and true
If Dallas comes to me for prayer,
because he feels afraid
We'll know the fear just had to flee...
all because I prayed
